A sickness outbreak has been reported on the P&O Ventura cruise ship. P&O has confirmed that approximately 2% of those onboard has the illness. This would indicate that somewhere around 100 people are currently sick.
The causative agent has not yet been determined but the predominant symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea.
The cruise has taken the following actions in response:
Cleaning efforts have been increased on the ship.
The on-board launderettes have been closed.
The main buffet has been transitioned from self-service to crew serve only.
Extensive sanitation procedures were carried out while the Ventura was docked in Tenerife, Spain on Friday, May 17th. All passengers were asked to go ashore from 10am until 2pm in order to facilitate the effort.
The current sailing on the P&O Ventura is scheduled to conclude when it arrives back in Southampton, England on May 25th.
